Frames Unlimited
Michael and Ellen Mintz founded Frames Unlimited in August of 1979. Originally located at 44 Windermere Boulevard in the South Windermere Center, it housed both a custom framing and a Do It Yourself (D-I-Y) framing workshop. The space was compact and had very little gallery room. In September of 1989, we were Hugo'd. Hurricane Hugo roared through Charleston, leaving significant damage in its wake and Frames Unlimited was one of the casualties. After several weeks and two insurance settlements later, we emerged from the ruins to reopen at 26 Windermere Boulevard, still in the South Windermere Center. Several hundred square feet larger and minus the D-I-Y workshop, a new era began. With a brightly lit front room consisting of both design space and a new gallery, Frames Unlimited moved into its next phase. Adding contemporary crafts and ready-made photo frames, the showroom evolved even further, to its current state.
