Toll Attendant available - Parkvolusia

Job Summary
This position is responsible for accurately classifying vehicles, collecting tolls and providing change to motorists traveling through a toll lane. This position is in an outdoor work environment, subject to weather conditions. Crossing traffic lanes safely requires good mobility, vision and hearing to be alert to traffic conditions. Peak traffic conditions require a high volume of transactions to be processed under demanding conditions. This work impacts the traveling public and as such requires courtesy, efficiency, and professionalism at all times.
Main Duties and Responsabilities
• Be an ambassador to Volusia County through providing exceptional guest services to the residents of the county and its visitors who come to enjoy our beautiful beaches.
• Proficiently operate the Department’s toll collection equipment according to procedure.
• Accurately classify vehicles and collect proper toll amounts from motorists traveling through a toll lane.
• Accurately make change for various U.S. bill denominations in a timely manner, issue receipts to motorists and complete Daily Activity Log as required.
• Accurately complete operational reports reflecting toll lane activity. At end of shift, balance cash and prepare accurate cash deposits on monies collected and tickets received/sold.
• Speak and understand English proficiently to effectively communicate with motorists and respond to inquiries in a courteous, professional, and helpful manner.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• High school diploma or GED.
• Successfully pass English, math, cash calculation, customer service tests.
• Required to possess and maintain a current/valid driver’s license.
• Availability to work weekend hours based on business needs.
• Ability to handle high traffic volume quickly and efficiently.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time while servicing our guests during shift
• Ability to walk long distances, navigate steps and stairs, and be on your feet for entirety of shift in the sun and other weather conditions while selling tickets in a mobile capacity, wearing POS equipment.
• Mobility in and around toll booth and incoming vehicles
• Ability to independently move signage and traffic cones as required.
• Ability to determine vehicle classification by visual inspection.
• Ability to handle money and make change.
• Ability to determine correct tolls based on a numerical table provided (Manual collections).
• Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to express ideas and concepts clearly.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Interpersonal communication skills.
• Cash handling experience on a computerized system.

Physical Ability
Ability to communicate orally with management, co-workers, and customers is crucial.
Standing for extended periods, walking long distances, navigating steps or stairs, lifting up to 50 lbs is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to interact with customers.
Heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 50 lbs. is required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, and calculators.
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require oral communications ability and visual perception and discrimination.
Environmental Factors
The job is performed outdoors. Activities include extended periods of standing in hot sun/heat/cold or inclement weather conditions and extensive work at a handheld POS system.
