1984 Honda 500 Interceptor
I am selling a 1984 500 Honda Interceptor. I bought it just before I went to Thailand. I went for four months that turned out to be seven years. Welcome to Gilligan's Island. I am in Big Bear City, CA, right now at the same location as the bike, but I may be going back for another three-hour tour, which is the reason for the sale.rnrnWhen I bought it, the Honda ran flawlessly, however, the guy I bought it from had bobbed the rear end, and the bike had an oil leak in the seal around the clutch push-rod. What makes this an issue, is the seal is designed to be replaced from the inside-out. The engine cases have to be split, then the seal goes in, and the bike gets re-assembled. Shop prices are pretty high for this. I suggest a buyer would be prepared to replace the seal by themselves, or that they try to modify the case so the seal can be replaced from the outside. Of course, the right way is from the inside.rnrnThe Honda has 33,771 miles on it. No smoke at all when it ran. These motorcycles are just starting to break in at 33,000 miles, but it has been sitting both inside and outside for the last seven years. I was lost on the Island, remember? Weather and time takes its toll. It needs a cleanup along with the seal, the replacement of the seal being a good time to do the cleanup.rnrnIt can also be parted out. Just about everything on this bike is fine, and being a 1984 500 - the first year they were made - the parts have value. This bike sat for seven years and the tire pressures are still the same as I left them. The side covers are now gone, but the title is clean. No fees due. As a parts bike, you could probably make two grand and more. If it is a cleaned up runner, it is a 1984 Honda 500 Interceptor, one of the nicer bikes Honda ever built.rnrnI can do the seal myself. My problem is if and when I return to Thailand. I built a school out there. I have no confidence in starting the bike project when I am more or less undecided as to whether or not I go back . . . so here's my offer: anything at $600.00 or above. The pictures can give you an idea of what we are talking about. Thanks for reading all this; I do appreciate your time.
