The PennySaver community tradition was started back in the Great Depression. Our current incarnation was launched in 1962 when Bob DeMarco, a directory salesman, had an idea to start the Huntington Beach PennySaver. People used to go to his office and wait in line, cash in hand, to place their ads. Demand was so strong, that at his noon deadline at the end of each week, he would have to lock his doors. The Original PennySaver, as we know it today, follows a similar format as the original Huntington Beach PennySaver.

Over 50 years later, we're still going strong (and with the Internet, we're now 24/7!). Our PennySaverUSA.com publication is in over 800 local editions and mailed to 9.1 million households in California. Our sister publication in Florida, TheFlyer.com, reaches over 2.2 million households. In total, we reach over 11.2 million Americans every week with quality neighborhood discounts. We're the largest direct mail shopping publication in the U.S. with a leading online classifieds network and a suite of business services that reaches millions of people and brings customers to countless individual sellers and business owners around the country.

Most importantly, we're still passionate about our mission to connect buyers and sellers and bring the best local values to our readers wherever they are. In this era of overblown rhetoric and make-a-quick-buck operations, The Original PennySaver is still committed to the same principles we were committed to almost fifty years ago. We understand it's more important now than ever for families to get as much out of their hard-earned dollars as possible and we're here to help you pennysave any way we can!

We love our history and our mission, but we love having fun too...old school style, of course.

We also love small businesses. We're dedicated to helping small businesses thrive and we have an online product called PowerSites that gets small businesses online and found through search engines. PowerSites was featured in a local SoCal TV show recently. Check out the video below!

The PennySaver owns the Guinness World Record for the largest piggy bank! Sadly, the bank died a few years ago, but he's forever immortalized in these pictures. The money put into the bank was donated to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
